Roger Scruton mentions the RGS...

Postby John Saunders » Mon Nov 30, 2015 5:18 pm

I've just had my attention drawn to this interview with Roger Scruton (RGS 1954-62) in The Guardian of 4 October 2015...

http://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015 ... -interview

The RGS gets a mention in a section about Scruton's early life and his difficult relationship with his socialist father Jack...

Guardian Interview, 5 October 2015 wrote:He disapproved of his son taking a place at the selective grammar school, with its affectations of privilege, and when Roger won a place at Cambridge the pair became estranged.

Scruton is complimentary about the RGS:

Guardian Interview, 5 October 2015 wrote:I went to a very good school, High Wycombe Royal Grammar; our masters were people who had come home from the war looking for a job at Eton and not managed it, so had gone for the next best thing. I learned an awful lot there.
