School Honour Board, 1907-75

Postby John Saunders » Sun Oct 20, 2013 1:40 pm

I have published a new feature on the website - the School Honours Board, i.e. a list of those boys who won scholarships and exhibitions to universities. Whilst at the Old Boys Dinner in September, I took photos of the honours boards in the Queen's Hall and have since transcribed them.

I have checked what appears on the honours boards against what is listed in an appendix in the back of the Ashford & Haworth school history, attempting to resolve any conflicting info, and adding full names and a little biographical information (where available). I have covered the years 1907 (when the honours boards start) to 1975 (when my energies give out!). This is very much a work in progress - I have quite a bit of data still to add to what is already there - but if anyone would like to contribute info (either by posting here or emailing me), I shall of course be grateful to receive it.

I'm still steadily adding data to the RGS Honours Board page...

One of my primary objectives is to include full forenames for everyone on the list. For one thing, this makes it easier to google people and find out more about them. The habit of just giving initials with the surname is extremely 'old hat' in this day and age, not to mention the bane of a researcher's life. If people could cast their eyes down the list and tell me any forenames that they are sure they remember, please let me know.
